Island community groups receive wellness grant funding
Provincial wellness grants are assisting 16 community groups this year with projects that promote healthy living and community well-being.
The Wellness Grant Program provides $50,000 annually to support community-led initiatives grounded in “upstream” health promotion principles in the following priority areas:
- tobacco reduction
- responsible alcohol use
- physical activity
- healthy eating and
- mental Wellness
“These grants provide important opportunities for local groups and organizations to positively influence wellness in their own communities,” said Minister of Health and Wellness, Ernie Hudson. “It is wonderful to see a wide range of innovative projects happening across PEI this year. We know that the work our community partners do makes a real difference in the health and wellness of Islanders.”
This year, the grant program offered two different streams of funding for both small and large wellness initiatives: the Community Catalyst Grant (up to $2,500 to support building local capacity) and the Health Promotion Impact Grant (up to $10,000 to support larger, targeted projects that focus on modifying risk factors for chronic disease).
One of the sixteen community groups to receive funding for 2021-22.
“Focusing on health promotion and community wellness is more important now than ever before as move out of this pandemic. We must continue to work together to create and foster environments that support healthy living, prevent chronic disease, and that are supportive to all Islanders."
Almost 100 projects have received Wellness Grant funding since the program launched in 2015. For more information, visit the Wellness Grant Program or follow @LiveWellPEI on Facebook and Twitter.
