Learning Opportunities

The Health Promotion Unit hosts various provincial workshops, conferences, and learning opportunities for community members and organizations in PEI. This is a collection of some of the archived presentation slides, materials, and resources from previous learning opportunities.

Conferences

2018 Health Promotion Conference:The theme for the 2018 PEI Health Promotion Conference was “Creating the Social and Physical Environments Necessary to Foster Health and Well-being among PEI’s children and youth.” The event brought community members together and included the following presentation topics; Setting the Context: Child and Youth Health in PEI; Healthy Living- A Matter of Perspective; Health Promotion Initiatives-School System & Community Panel discussions and wrapped up with engaging conversations from participants. 

2019 Health Promotion Conference: The theme for the 2019 PEI Health Promotion Conference was "The Power of Community: Together we can! Strengthening collaboration and mobilization for healthier communities." The event brought community members together and included the following presentation topics; Working together on the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion in PEI; Introduction to Concepts- Reorienting Health Services; The Power of Community: Together we can!; Introduction to Concepts-Asset-Based Community Development; and wrapped up with The Ottawa Charter in Action!

Forums

2024 Provincial Alcohol Policy Forum:

The Health Promotion Unit hosted PEI's second provincial Alcohol Policy Forum on March 20-21, 2024. The goal of the forum was to offer an opportunity to learn, network and share information about alcohol policy best-practices and alcohol-related harms in PEI. Barefoot Facilitation Inc. hosted and facilitated the forum in partnership with the Health Promotion Unit.

2023 Provincial Alcohol Policy Forum:

The Health Promotion Unit in PEI’s Chief Public Health Office, Department of Health and Wellness hosted PEI’s first Alcohol Policy Forum virtually on January 25-26, 2023. The goal of the forum was to provide a learning and networking opportunity on alcohol policy best-practices and alcohol-related harms in PEI. The forum was also timely given the release of Canada’s new Guidance on Alcohol and Health on January 17, 2023, therefore other learning goals included increased awareness of the risks associated with alcohol use; the impacts of costs and alcohol-related harms in our community; and how alcohol policy has a role to play in reducing alcohol-related harms.

Barefoot Facilitation Inc. hosted and facilitated the forum in partnership with the Health Promotion Unit.

Community Workshops

Grant Writing Workshops: 

The Health Promotion Unit hosted grant writing workshops in 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023 to support interested applicants of Wellness Grant Program. 

Live Well PEI Design Project:

In May and December 2023, the Live Well PEI Design Project hosted community workshops to gather input from community organizations on how we could support community leaders in promoting health in their communities. The collected feedback will be used to help inform future efforts by the Chief Public Health Office to support Island communities in promoting health through addressing the key modifiable risk factors for chronic disease: healthy eating, physical activity, tobacco and alcohol use.
