• What? PEI Community Fridge
• Where? Charlottetown
• How? Facilitates access to safe & nutritious food for our community. A structure has been built in Charlottetown to store two fridges with freezers & a small pantry. The space is accessible to anyone 24/7 (no questions asked!) and is stocked daily by community members, volunteers, and local businesses.
• Impact! Even though community fridges do not necessarily address the root causes of food insecurity (e.g., income), there is still an important community impact! This project helps create a sense of community, reduces local food waste, and removes barriers to accessing food – especially for those at higher risk of food insecurity.
